A Porthole Size View. . . Mt Kembla By Robyn te Velde
The horizon was dull, not much at sea
As I pondered what my picture should be
A perspective that suited the quest of the day
My view to the north was blocked all the way
I looked back to the south of that dreary old peer
Old pylons down under, quite eerie I fear
I finally sat with my back to the east
A view to shore and the coal stacks not least.
My legs stretched out; my feet simply crossed
Waves softly lapping as reflections were tossed.
A container ship docked, took up much of the west
But settled I was that this view that was best
It was then I noticed the mountain in sight
Bathed in sunshine and morning light
The boardwalk above and my feet at the base
Like a frame of the view that stared me in the face.
If not for that mountain and coal deep inside
There’d be no inner harbour, no ships on the tide
My porthole size view, right here from the peer
Mt Kembla the heart of my picture, now clear.
Note: Authentic old pylon timber from the Inner Harbour used in frame posts.
